President Tran Dai Quang chairs the second session of the National Defence and Security Council,
tenure 2016-2021, in Hanoi on December 8.
The State leader chaired the second session of the National Defence and Security Council (tenure 2016-2021) in Hanoi on December 8, discussing the implementation of national defence, security and foreign affairs tasks in 2017 and the main tasks for the year ahead.
The working session heard reports from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, and the concerned agencies on the achievements attained in the 2017 tasks, the organisation of training and rehearsal for handling complicated situations of national defence and security, and the operations of the Vietnamese forces in the UN peacekeeping missions.
President Quang, who is also the council’s president, praised the military and police forces in effectively implementing the resolutions and directives from the Party and State on defence, security and foreign affairs.
The forces have also promptly advised the Party and State, as well as the administrations at all levels, on solutions to improve the performance of the military, defence and security tasks, while fulfilling their assigned missions to firmly protect Vietnam’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and social order in all situations.
Particularly, officials and soldiers of the People's Army and the People's Police have promoted their sense of responsibility to help people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods, especially the recent strong typhoons, while efficiently handling all arising situations and ensuring the absolute security and safety of the key events and activities under the Vietnam APEC Year 2017 and the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in Da Nang, that have been highly praised by international friends.
The senior leader agreed with the proposals made by the Ministry of Defence and Public Security to improve the quality and effectiveness of defence, security and external affairs in the near future, emphasising the need to raise public awareness on the significance of the rehearsals regarding the handling of complex defence and security cases during the implementation of the two strategic tasks of building and defending the Fatherland.
President Quang also urged the armed forces, police and diplomatic forces to intensify their coordination with others in order to mobilise the combined strength of the entire political system and the entire population in the performance of military and national security missions.
