VNHNO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked forprotection status to be granted to Ngoc Linh ginseng as a national brand at a conference on developing Ngoc Linh ginseng and other medicinal herbs in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on September 6.
The PM said Ngoc Linh ginseng, which is regarded as anational treasure, could become a source of national livelihood in different aspects, and emphasised the need to raise the values of Ngoc Linh ginseng, both economically and medicinally, protect its purebred gene, and develop geographical indication for the medicinal herb.

The Government leader also asked relevant ministries and agencies to assist Kon Tum and central Quang Nam province where Ngoc Linh ginseng is being grown, in implementing their ginseng development strategies.
He asked authorities of Kon Tum and Quang Nam provinces to fight against fake Ngoc Linh ginseng and ensure brand protection.
The Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis, or Vietnamese ginseng), a rare medical root containing 52 saponin compounds with health benefits, was found on Ngoc Linh Mountain on the boundary between Kon Tum and the central province of Quang Nam in the late 1960s.
In June 2017, Ngoc Linh ginseng was included on the list of national products./.
