Viet Nam ranks third in numbers of researchers in South Korea

Viet Nam ranks third in terms of the number of researchers in South Korea, after China and India and above the U.S. and Pakistan, according to a report released by the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.

The above countries account for 62.2 percent of foreign researchers in the East Asian nation, the report showed.

The report said as of November, up to 22,000 foreign scientific researchers had registered to join the Korean government's research and development (R&D) projects, equivalent to 3.2 percent of the total scientific researchers in the country.

Of the aforesaid number, 1,263 foreign researchers participate in projects included in the 12 key national strategic technologies, with advanced biotechnology being most attractive.

Viet Nam becomes the second biggest source of foreign students in South Korea with 37,490 ones as of April 1, 2022 (only behind China), announced the Korea Educational Development Institute (KEDI).

The number of Vietnamese students in South Korea increased from 19 percent to 22.7 percent last year.

Established in 1992, the relationship between Viet Nam and South Korea has developed rapidly and both countries upgraded their ties to Strategic cooperative partnership in October 2009, opening up a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, with many important cooperation achievements./.
