According to Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, the COVID-19 pandemic situation would remain problematic and tough in 2022, with the difficulty of strengthening food safety and market traceability. The entire industry is still aiming for a total seafood output of around 8.73 million tons and a seafood export turnover of over 9 billion dollars this year.

As a result, 13 pangasius exporting firms will remain in the US market; 19 enterprises will be added to the Russian market; 67 enterprises will be added to Korea; 31 enterprises will be added to China (total exports to China will be 779), and 52 enterprises will be added to the EU.

Determined to get back what was lost

Despite various challenges, such as disease prevention and volatile container costs, according to Mr. Le Van Chung, General Director of IDI, export turnover has risen pretty well in general. Business activities can still be maintained during the stressful pandemic season with the urgent application of vaccines for roughly 8,000 workers and the optimal use of the 5K message. Currently, the company is working extra hours to ensure that orders for partners are met as promised before the annual Tet holiday.

Orders rushing in

Open up the door to the big market

"The market's road is full of ups and downs, and not every reopening will be without incident. When you're being tortured, you have to be patient; those who can't take it will eventually give up. This necessitates manufacturers managing risks and understanding market fluctuations in order to alter the line at the appropriate time," said Mr. Le Van Chung, General Director of IDI.

IDI's great viability in the face of the pandemic

Following a hiatus caused by the pandemic, the South American market hurried to purchase pangasius at favorable prices, which were twice as high as the previous year. This is excellent news for IDI, especially in regions such as Mexico and Brazil.

In 2021, the company exported to 95 markets around the world, with consumers including supermarkets, restaurants, and processors of pangasius value-added products. This year, IDI will continue to dig deeper into other markets when setting the goal of participating in the global value chain in order to have long-term orders and good prices to boost profit margins for businesses.

Because IDI now meets the standards for self-contained production, modern technology, skilled workers, good business executives, and an outstanding product quality management system, the company is judged to have large-scale export capacity. IDI's export orders are currently signed in full till the end of 2022.

In the new circumstances, IDI is putting up efforts to simultaneously combat the pandemic and enhance production, taking advantage of market demand opportunities, and reaffirming its place on the global market ./.
