NCA opens seminar on cybersecurity incident response

The National Cybersecurity Association (NCA) hosted a seminar titled “The maturity level of Vietnamese enterprises and organizations in responding to incidents”, on the morning of May 21, in Hanoi.

The event gathered representatives from NCA, the National Cybersecurity Center under the Department of Cybersecurity and Hi-tech Crimes, the Cybersecurity Monitoring Center under CMC Cyber Security Corporation and various organizations and businesses.
In the current context of rapidly accelerating digital transformation, the number of cyberattacks increases sharply in terms of both frequency and severity. However, most Vietnamese businesses and organizations remain underprepared, lacking corresponding capabilities, procedures and plans to effectively respond to cybersecurity incidents.

According to statistics provided by NCA, 52.89% of organizations and businesses in Vietnam have not yet deployed sufficient technological solutions to effectively handle cyber incidents. In 2024 alone, approximately 659,000 cyberattacks of various types were recorded, impacting about 46.15% of the agencies and enterprises nationwide.
Head of the NCA Technology Division Vu Ngoc Son noted that only about 11% of the businesses and organizations in Vietnam meet the criteria for incident response readiness, saying that, although this figure exceeds the global average of 3–4%, it still indicates a widespread lack of preparedness and robust defense systems.
Deputy Director of the National Cybersecurity Center Tran Trung Hieu also warned that the rising number and increasing sophistication of cyberattacks underscore the urgent need for all businesses and organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities.

The expert underlined that cyberattacks target data steal and system disruption of not only small businesses but also critical governmental institutions and major companies, posing significant threats to national security and social order.
At the seminar, experts and delegates agreed that staff’s capacity should first be improved as human is always the weakest link in any network.
Accordingly, regular training in cybersecurity awareness and skills for every staff member within an organization is essential. Only when all staff members are equipped with sufficient cybersecurity knowledge and skills, may technological and procedural solutions achieve their intended efficiency.
From a technological standpoint, in the context of the growing complexity of cyber threats, businesses and organizations should invest more in comprehensive cybersecurity solutions, particularly by implementing centralized security management systems equipped with AI-powered analytics and integrated with threat intelligence, ensuring timely detection and proactive response to potential risks.
