Viettel opens largest data center in Hanoi-based Hoa Lac hi-tech park

The Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), on April 10, inaugurated its data center in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in Hanoi.

The new center has racks (server cabinets) with a capacity of two times higher than the average in Vietnam, meeting the development trend of artificial intelligence (AI) with high-performance computer chips to increase computing ability.

Viettel Chairman and General Director Major General Tao Duc Thang speaks at the inaugural ceremony.

With 60,000 servers, more than 2,400 racks, and a total electrical capacity of 30MW, it has also become the largest data center in Vietnam so far.

The data center owns many green certificates, such as energy management standards, environmental impact management standards, and labor hygiene management standards. It is also the first data center in Vietnam to be committed to using renewable energy to meet 30% of electricity consumption.

Inaugurating the data center

Viettel Chairman and General Director Major General Tao Duc Thang said that Viettel would continue to invest in data centers. As scheduled, by 2025, Viettel will invest and expand its scale to 17,000 racks. By 2030, Viettel will increase its scale to 34,000 racks. Viettel is ready to work with Vietnamese businesses to get ready for the cloud computing boom.

Addressing the event, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that Viettel has planned to run at least three data centers in the next two years with a capacity of 240KW, which is eight times larger than the current center. He hoped that Viettel would continue to promote its pioneering mission of a leading digital infrastructure enterprise, Vietnam’s national digital infrastructure enterprise.
