Vietnam sees sharp drop in cyberattack number

A 75.1% drop was seen in the number of detected and handled cyberattacks targeting information systems in Vietnam to 349 cases in August, according to the Authority of Information Security under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).

It reported 4,029 cyberattacks in the first eight months of this year, a decrease of 53.2% from the same period last year.

As of August, nearly 5,900 out of the more than 7,600 information systems of State agencies had been classified and protected, reaching 77% and increasing 14% over the same period in 2023. However, the remaining 23% is still high.

In order to deal with the situation, the MIC recommended that ministries, sectors, and agencies pay greater attention to and prioritise resources to complete the approval of information protection level proposal dossiers, ensuring that 100% of the information systems are protected as scheduled.

Following the Prime Minister’s direction, the approval of information protection level proposal dossiers must be completed within September, while the deadline for agencies to fully implement security measures for their systems is December.

Statistics showed that the revenue of the information security sector in August reached 451 billion VND (18.32 million USD), an increase of 10% over the same period last year. The cumulative growth rate of revenue of the sector in the Jan-August period was 10.5% year on year./.
