On April 1, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an international press conference about the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 (AFF 2024).

At the press conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet said that the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 will take place on April 23 in Hanoi, with the participation of over 200 delegates, including senior leaders of a number of ASEAN countries and partners, representatives of international organizations and leading regional and world scholars. This is one of the most important multilateral foreign affairs events that Vietnam hosts in 2024.

The initiative to organize the ASEAN Future Forum was announced by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia in September, 2023. This was a new idea of Vietnam, with the desire to create a forum to join member countries, friends, partners of ASEAN and all walks of life in ASEAN to contribute to promoting and shaping the future development path for ASEAN.

According to the Deputy Minister, the idea of organizing the ASEAN Future Forum is part of the effort of Vietnam and ASEAN countries to create a forum to exchange and find solutions to problems.

The theme of this year's forum is "Building a fast, sustainable ASEAN community with people at the center”.

"This theme reflects the concerns and expectations of the Vietnamese government as well as those of countries around the world, closely linked to the development direction of ASEAN and Vietnam, especially in promoting sustainable economic growth and building a people-centered community," said Deputy Minister Viet.

The ASEAN Future Forum 2024 includes main activities, including the opening session with the participation and speeches of Vietnam's senior leaders, the current and next ASEAN Chairs, the Secretary General of ASEAN, and the Secretary General of the United Nations; and two discussion sessions.

Within the framework of the Forum, a Dialogue event between the Secretary General of ASEAN and young people, a noteworthy highlight at this year's forum, will take place. It will serve as an opportunity for Vietnamese and ASEAN youth to enhance their understanding of ASEAN, share their expectations and provide recommendations for ASEAN's future direction./.
