Viet Nam set to observe Earth Hour 2022

The Earth Hour 2022 will be observed in Viet Nam from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 26, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Viet Nam will join the Earth Hour 2022 scheduled on March 26 from 20:30 to 21:30 in which the entire country will turn off unnecessary electric appliances.

During the Earth Hour, citizens nationwide are encouraged take a simple but meaningful act of turning off lights and other unnecessary devices in their homes and workplaces.

Starting as a symbolic "lights out" event in Sydney in 2007, the Earth Hour has become one of the world's largest grassroots movements for the environment.

It has inspired and empowered individuals, communities, businesses, and organizations in 190 countries and territories to take action on climate change and environmental loss.

Earth Hour – an initiative of the WWF - is the largest social event in the world, which has been observed in 7,000 cities and towns across 172 countries and territories.

Viet Nam first joined the Earth Hour campaign in 2009. Last year, the country saved 353,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to VND 658.1 million (US$28,635).

At the COP26, Vietnamese Prime Minister promised that the country will make use of its own domestic resources, along with the cooperation and support of the international community, especially from the developed countries, in terms of finance and technology, including through mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, in order to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
