Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang made the above announcement on August 29.
"We believe that the visits made by the two nations' senior leaders will deepen Viet Nam-U.S. relations, and foster long-term, sustainable and practical development of the bilateral relations across all sectors, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world", Pham noted.
The year 2023 is an important milestone in Viet Nam-U.S. relations as it marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their comprehensive partnership (2013-2023).
During a high-level phone talk between Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and U.S. President Joe Biden on March 29, the two leaders highly appreciated the positive and comprehensive development of the relationship between the two countries over the past time.
They agreed to promote, develop and deepen the bilateral relationship for the sake of the two nations, and for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
Overcoming many challenges, Viet Nam and the U.S. normalized diplomatic relations in 1995. Since then, Viet Nam-U.S. relations have expanded in many aspects including politics, economy, trade, investment, science, and education.
Since the normalization of relations, bilateral trade turnover has increased more than 240 times, from half a billion US$ in 1995 to more than US$120 billion in 2022.
The U.S. remained the largest importer of Vietnamese goods during the first seven months of 2023 with an estimated turnover of US$52.4 billion.
The U.S. has become the first export market of Viet Nam to surpass the US$100 billion mark, while Viet Nam is now the 8th largest trading partner of the U.S.
The U.S. direct investment in Viet Nam reached US$11.4 billion, ranking 11th among countries and territories investing in Viet Nam./.
