VNHNO - The Van Don-Mong Cai highway in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh will be constructed under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) and public-private partnership (PPP) contract, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

The total investment capital for the highway is estimated to reach more than VND11,195 billion, of which VND1,262 billion will be invested by joint venture and nearly VND9,867 billion will be mobilized.
The 80.2 km Van Don-Mong Cai highway will have four lanes and is designed for an average speed of 100 km per hour.
Construction will be kicked off this year and will be completed within 22 months. Fees will be collected for 20 years on the way.
Earlier, the Van Don International Airport welcomed the first aircraft on July 11.
With total investment of VND7.5 trillion (US$330 million), the 326-hectare airport is designed to have annual capacity of between two and 2.5 million passengers by 2020.
It is the first airport in the country built with capital mobilized by local authorities.
The airport is expected to increase its annual capacity to five million passengers, and have a cargo terminal with capacity of at least 51,000 tons by 2030.
Van Don airport and Van Don-Mong Cai highway are hoped to facilitate travelling to Quang Ninh, home to the World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay.
