Gov't approves digital infrastructure strategy

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed a Decision approving the digital infrastructure strategy through 2025, with an orientation towards 2030.

The strategy targets that by 2025, all Vietnamese households will be able to access fiber optic cable services while all the localities nationwide, high-tech parks, centralized information technology parks, research and development and innovation centers, industrial parks, train stations, seaports, and international airports will have access to 5G coverage.

By 2025, at least two new international undersea fiber optic cable routes will be put into operation. Viet Nam will set up Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers and develop new data centers that meet green standards in which the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) does not exceed 1.4.

Other targets include each citizen having one Internet of Things (IoT) connection and issued with one electronic identification; the percentage of adult population with digital signatures or personal electronic signatures reaching over 50 percent; and developing platforms that provide digital technologies (IoT, AI, big data, blockchain, and cybersecurity) as soft infrastructure for socio-economic development.

By 2030, the strategy aims to expand the coverage of 5G mobile broadband networks to 99 percent of the population and build Hyperscale Data Centers and Digital Hubs.

A robust digital transformation, combined with the application of modern science and technology, is set to become a key driving force for Viet Nam's future development.

Advancing digital transformation efforts will help achieve the goal of placing Viet Nam among the world's top 50 countries and 3rd in ASEAN for e-government and digital economy by 2030./.
